Specifications:

  • 600-dpi engine
  • 16 pages per minute black and white; 4 in colour
  • 233MHz processor
  • 64MB Memory
  • 35,000 pages per month duty cycle
  • 1 year on-site warranty
  • Connectivity: 1 IEEE 1284 parallel, 2 EIO, 1 Infrared
  • Compatibility: Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0, 2000, XP; Macintosh (7.0 or later); IBM OS/2 Warp V2 & V4; Hewlett Packard HP-UX
  • Price: Approx £1500 (Approx £1750 for Network version)

    Plus Points:

  • Value: you get alot of printer for your money
  • Print quality: colours are faithful; pictures come out in impressive detail
  • Speed: pictures are printed far faster than your average inkjet; black and white printing is extremely rapid
  • Holds plenty of sheets in its 2 feeder trays: 400+ sheets
  • Very easy to set up: easy to install ink cartridges; straight-forward menu on printer guides you through the installation stage (although in our trial, the menu did ask for a magenta cartridge whilst the printer offered a slot for the yellow one - so be careful)
  • Excellent facility that enables you to monitor the amount of toner left in each cartridge
  • Dependable: no paper jams as yet; consistently good results
  • Network friendly

    Minus Points:

  • Can be quite expensive to run - consumables reasonably expensive, although toner has decent cartridge lifespan, and it's cheaper to run than an equivalent inkjet
  • Takes a long time to power up
  • Can't compete with inkjet on high-end reproduction
  • Fairly hefty for the small office

    Verdict:

  • Very good value overall with excellent print results
