ThinkSMS.co.uk - Making the most of the messaging revolution
ThinkSMS.co.uk is a Cardiff-based firm breaking ground in the mobile messaging arena. itwales.com speaks to Gareth Dupre,
marketing manager, who says that the story behind ThinkSMS.co.uk is the
usual tale of one man following a dream.
"Our MD, Darren Rose, travelled the world developing information and mobile technology applications
and solutions. Two years ago, he saw the growth and
opportunity for SMS technology in the UK and ThinkSMS.co.uk was born. We now boast a core team of seven, including programming, engineering, sales and marketing and plan to double this within
six months."
"We provide both technical and marketing services for all business sectors, focusing on wireless and Internet technologies, to create new income streams and reduce operating
costs."
ThinkSMS.co.uk services include:
A wireless messaging platform - enabling instant SMS text messaging to individuals or groups, with delivery reporting
An interactive messaging platform - enabling SMS competitions and voting services to be managed;
A media content delivery platform - enabling the delivery and billing of mobile phone games and images; and
Mobile application development - bespoke Java applications for mobile phones.
ITW: What's unique/outstanding about the services you provide?
GD: We have an in-house development team with over 10 years development experience in the wireless space gained in both the northern and southern hemispheres, coupled with a marketing team
that fully understands how to maximise the commercial opportunities of wireless technology. The result - campaigns and services that are highly effective at increasing income and reducing operating
costs.
ITW: What one piece of technology has benefited your company the most?
GD: Although more of a culture than a piece of hardware, it has to be the growth of SMS messaging across the UK. Three years ago, texting was the monopoly of youth. Today, businesses and
individuals of all ages are sending and receiving around 60 million texts every day. It is hardly surprising that SMS is the fastest growing communications medium in history. You may even say that could
say that it has taken over from the BBC as the most important three letters in worldwide communication.
ITW: What's been the key to your success?
GD: Without a doubt, it is the development of an excellent committed team. Whatever role we play in the organisation, everyone has a say; everyone is empowered and everyone understands that
rewards come only with very hard work.
ITW: What one piece of advice would you give to start up companies in your field?
GD: Know your customers, listen to their needs and ensure that you always provide more than they expect, earlier than they expect it. And finally, always give your customers total satisfaction, as
today's customers are tomorrow's referrals.
ITW: Where do you see your company going in the future?
GD: As mobile phone technology improves from two and a half (2.5G) and third generation (3G) to the latest 4G, we see our future very closely linked with Java technology. Whereas people are
currently downloading games, ringtones and logos, they will soon be able to download applications that enable them to access the information they want - everything from the league position of their
favourite rugby team to the houses for sale in their preferred area - whenever and wherever they want it straight to their mobile phone.
