"Doing what comes naturally"
Developing self learning systems for business and industry

Tuesday 3rd October
6.30 - 8.30pm (Doors open 6pm)

Robert Recorde Room, Faraday Building
Swansea University

Hollywood was probably among the first to promote the concept of Self-learning Computers. "Skynet" in the Terminator movie and the famous "RoboCop" in the movie of the same name are two classic examples.

Guest speaker, Dr Rajesh Ransing is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering at Swansea University.

In his presentation he will address some basic questions and stimulate further discussion about our perception of a 'Self-learning system'.
How does it differ from Intelligent Computing and the routine procedural programming paradigms?
Why is it relevant now?
Is Google search intelligent?
Can Google search self-learn?
Is the optimisation process itself a self-learning process?

Dr Ransing is a member of the Natural Computing Applications Forum ( NCAF) Executive Committee and Principal Investigator of the research initiative into developing the world's first self-learning system - X1Recall investigating self-learning cause and effect relationships . The initiative is partly funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and various Industry partners and extendsalready over a period of 4-5 years. Following his presentation Dr Ransing will deliver a case study of the award winning X1Recall software.

This event forms part of the ITWales Software Developers programme and is supported by the Welsh Assembly Government
