Dr Matt Roach, Managing Director of Blueprint IT

What is the history of the company?
We started trading in November 2004, providing out sourced IT support for small companies.

In our first year of trading we received a number of enquiries about websites. To meet a demand we started developing websites and delivering online promotion for our customers, now this area of our business is the larger part.

What unique products/services does your company provide?
We specialise in delivering websites for professional industries that can add value to their customer base, by keeping them informed of the latest developments in the industry through combining a content managed website with automated emails. We use this proactive web-based marketing technology not only to add value to our customer clients, the software promotes our customers brand and awareness of their latest service and product offerings creating leads and interest.

What's been the key to your success?
In a modest definition of success the key has simply been survival as a new company in a very competitive dynamic market. However, the definition of success for the company has now changed to one of both growth and increased profitability. I believe with our software product, that we have named SWIM, and the range of online promotional services we have developed that we will be able to achieve success in our new definition of the word.

Achieving survival and growth are the corner stones of our belief. In achieving success in both these area's is a determination and a vision for innovation to meet customer requirements. Where perhaps determination was the most prominent factor early on in survival it is clear that the ability to innovate is going to be far more influential in achieving our growth plans.

What one piece of outside technology has benefited your company?
Microsoft's CRM. It is not really the technology that has benefited the company but an unwavering belief that communication is key. It so happened that Microsoft's CRM is helping us to do this. There is no doubt in my mind that we required CRM technology to help us achieve, good communication, I don't know if Microsoft is the best but it works very well for us. We have more recently invested in some specialised SEO software to help us deliver our search engine optimisation service to our clients, helping them reach the top of the natural search engine rankings.

What one piece of advice would you give to start-up companies in your field?
Specialise, it is the curse of many IT related industries is that engineers think they can do anything, I know this as I was one of them. What makes this trap even more deadly is that I don't dispute that most people probably could do anything given time and application. However, you can not win at every thing, specialisation gives you a depth of specialist knowledge that can add value to your customers and a speed of development and delivery that is difficult for non specialist's to match. This speed of course results in time and money savings allowing you to deliver more value for money to your customers whilst also increasing your profitability.

Where do you see your company in the future?
We hope to increase the reach of our product, we are also creating a specialised version for the product for industries and companies. The plan is that this will fill our growth plans so we're able to expand.
