This year, International Women's Day (IWD) falls on Saturday 8th March, and ITWales will be marking the occasion with events in both north and south Wales.

At the Bodysgallen Hall Hotel in Llandudno on Wednesday March 5th, ITWales will be holding a lunch entitled 'Celebrating Women with Vision in North Wales'. Speakers will include Karen Padmore, Visualisation Director for the Centre for Advanced Software Technologies (CAST) in Bangor; Sasha Davies, Head of Economic Development for Anglesey Council; and Lindsay Hayman, founder of the award-winning online temporary employment exchange business, workerANT.

In the south, ITWales will be celebrating the occasion with an evening dinner on the 5th March at the Village Hotel, Swansea, hosted by BBC Wales presenter Jason Mohammad. Entitled 'Women Shaping the Future of Wales', the event will include presentations from Lesley Jones, Deputy Chief Executive, Wales Co-operative Centre; Professor Teresa Rees CBE, Pro Vice Chancellor, Research, Cardiff University; and Judy Haynes, Operations Director at leading internet development consultancy, Box UK. This event is supported by Bay in Business; Technium Swansea; the UK Resource Centre for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology; and Genero.

Many global corporations have also started to more actively support IWD by running their own internal events and through supporting external ones. For example, on 8th March search engine and media giant Google even changes its logo on its global search pages.

ITWales Director Beti Williams said: "ITWales has been supporting international Women's Day for some years now and we are very happy to once again be leading the celebrations within Wales. Opportunities for women - especially within the science and information technology sectors are greater than ever, but it is essential that we continue to promote events of this stature in order to ensure that women continue to receive the best possible opportunities in careers and in life."
