Guest speaker Gruffudd Prys from the Language Technologies Unit (Canolfan Bedwyr) at Bangor University will discuss efforts to enable SMEs to profit from Speech and Language Technology (SALT) research carried out in Wales, in what is an increasingly multilingual world.
Speech and Language Technologies enable human language, in its written or spoken form, to be included, used and catered for in software. These technologies include spellcheckers, intelligent search engines, computer assisted translation tools and speech-enabled websites and devices. These were the focus of the recent SALT Cymru project, funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, and will be described in the presentation, along with its recommendation that a Special Interest group bring together academia and industry, as well as users and developers of the technology.
This event forms part of the ITWales Software Developers programme, which is supported by the Welsh Assembly Government.
