The presentation will focus on the current trends to adopt Artificial Intelligence methods in Virtual Environments, to view a ‘road map’ as visualized by some key players in the field of virtual environments.
In particular one possible experimental application that makes use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to control ‘agents’ in virtual worlds, through such interfaces as OpenSim - a synergy between advanced AI
and gaming/virtual worlds.
Xavier Laurent is studying for a PhD in ‘Virtual Embodiment’ with the Creative Media Department at Bangor University and is currently in his first year. Xavier also works at Bangor University’s
Management Centre and manages the IT/AV infrastructure, as well as some IT related development projects to enhance business activity. Xavier is interested in solving how rich virtual worlds need to
be improved to be able to teach an "artificial toddler" to pass diverse and progressive levels of recognized infantile cognitive steps.
This event forms part of the ITWales Software Developers programme, which is supported by the Welsh Assembly Government.
