An Introduction to Flight Simulation

Tuesday 9th September
6.30 - 8.30pm (Doors open 6pm for registration)

Meeting Room 1, Talbot Building
Swansea University, SA2 8PP

ITWales has teamed up with the School of Engineering at Swansea University to demonstrate the application of flight simulation software used within the Aerospace Engineering programme.

Using a unique single-seat flight simulator, which has been built for the School by the Merlin Flight Simulation Group, Aerospace Engineering students and researchers are now able to create a design for an aircraft and then program the details into the simulator's computer to test, as realistically as possible, how well the aircraft would fly.

In addition to three large LCD screens displaying the view out of the cockpit and a further three, configurable LCD instrument panels in the cockpit, the simulator has a pilot helmet-mounted display, combined with a six axis head motion tracker, giving the engineer 'flying' the simulator a full 360 degree field of view. The simulator, which is mounted on a hydraulic motion system, also has the benefit of a unique navigation database, which allows students and staff to practice real-life navigation.

If you would like to join us for an informative, entertaining and interactive journey into the world of flight simulation advance booking is essential as places are strictly limited. This event forms part of the ITWales software development programme and is FREE to attend.

Following the presentation there will be a buffet and opportuni ty for some valuable networking PLUS there will be a limited number of opportunities to "fly" the simulator.

Booking for this event has now closed.
