Global IT company launches national centre of excellence for public sector services in Wales
International solutions provider, Logicalis, has launched a National Centre of Excellence for Public Sector Services and dedicated
headquarters in Wales, creating over 30 highly skilled ICT jobs. The facility also incorporates the nationwide operational support centre for the acclaimed Public Sector Broadband Aggregation (PSBA)
project, which was designed, built and managed in collaboration with the Welsh Assembly Government.
The Centre was opened by Ieuan Wyn Jones AM, Deputy First Minister and Minister for
the Economy and Transport, who commented, "Logicalis' new headquarters will not only create new job and training opportunities for local people, but will also ensure that Welsh staff are integral to the
ongoing deployment and evolution of PSBA, our unique public sector broadband initiative."
PSBA is a Welsh Assembly led project which is creating a national information and communications platform. A single high speed connectivity network, PSBA will support the delivery of a wide range
voice, video and data services, so enabling increased efficiency and collaboration within and across the public sector. Ultimately, it will enable improved public services for the people of Wales.
Launched in late 2007 it has, to date, successfully connected 1000 NHS sites, over 50 higher and further education establishments, and 22 Unitary Authorities.
The success and ongoing management of PSBA is the primary factor behind Logicalis' investment; however, the region's development as a leading international hub for technology and innovation is
also a key motivation.
Tom Kelly, managing director of Logicalis explains; "We are very excited at the opportunities we see here in Wales especially in the public sector where Wales is taking a UK lead in next generation
public services through projects such as PSBA, a flagship example of public and private sector collaboration. The eco-system of the project has unlimited possibilities for the organisations it seeks to
support, as well as the prospect to grow and evolve, thereby creating more demand for a skilled workforce.
"Working closely with the Welsh Assembly Government and other organisations has demonstrated the spectrum of commercial opportunities within Wales. The enthusiasm for groundbreaking and
innovative applications of ICT is shared by Logicalis, and we are excited about the prospect of working within such an environment. With the opening of our regional HQ and the creation of local,
highly skilled jobs we are making a significant investment to support and nurture these opportunities. "
Logicalis is an international provider of integrated information and communications technology ICT solutions, delivering secure, converged computing and communications infrastructure and services
that help organisations achieve competitive advantage and economic success.
