Mobile working to boost UK GDP
Technological advances facilitating remote and mobile working practices are benefitting the national economy by approximately £9 billion a year, according to new research.
"Britain on the Move", a research paper published by transport media business CBS Outdoor, revealed that the UK workforce gains 99
million working days each year and £9 billion as a result of working during time traditionally spent commuting, IT Pro reports.
The research, conducted by Future Foundation, also revealed that 22 per cent of commuting time is spent completing work-related
tasks, contributing 130 million productive minutes to the economy every working day.
Over half of the working population (55 per cent) said they liked to be contactable at all times, with innovations such as mobile phones, BlackBerrys, PDAs and laptops helping them to achieve this goal.
In total, 27 per cent said electronic devices have made their work journey more productive.
Last month, analyst Gartner called on enterprises to measure their mobile technology deployments in order to ascertain exactly what impact they
have on the productivity of workers, after it was revealed that over 90 per cent of businesses now have remote workers.
