Start-ups 'should consider difficulties'

Those starting their own businesses - including IT firms in Wales - should ensure that they keep in mind the difficulties faced when doing so, it has been claimed.

A spokesman at the Federation of Small Businesses noted that it is "risky" setting up a business but if people are passionate about these ventures then they ought to succeed.

Usually, people opt to work for themselves because it is a "lifestyle" move, he observed, as they have failed to find suitable employment.

But he stated that these emotions can hinder people because they lose track of the reality involved in setting up a business.

"You have to make sure that you really understand what you're getting into before you do it, no matter how enthusiastic you might be," he asserted.

In 2007, Yorkshire was the only region in the UK to witness a fall in the number of start-ups beginning business ventures, Barclays Bank has revealed.
