Welsh firms urged to use native tongue
It has been claimed that a greater number of businesses in the north of Wales want to start using the Welsh language on a daily basis.
Private sector and business development officer at the Welsh Language Board Meleri Wyn Williams stated that this could make such firms
more attractive to workers who are multi-lingual, reports the Daily Post.
While these organisations - which could include those in the IT sector - should not split in every department, suggested Ms Williams, they could begin by offering Welsh services in a few scenarios, such
as signs.
"There has been an increase in the number of Welsh speakers and they need to reach them. Especially in North Wales, where you have a higher proportion of Welsh speakers," she told the
paper.
But at present there are no regulations to suggest that businesses in Wales have to use the native language, she added.
Those starting firms in the country have been urged to keep an eye on reality when doing so by the Federation of Small Businesses.
