Staff calling for greener enterprises
Office staff are calling on their organisations to do more to become greener, with 90 per cent wanting IT recycling schemes and the introduction of eco-friendly office initiatives, a new survey has
revealed.
Research from electronic manufacturer Brother indicated that staff feel their employers are not keeping up with their ethical demands
some 40 per cent of businesses still have no recycling scheme in place - Computer Weekly reports.
It was also revealed that one in five companies are still throwing out old PCs and printers, despite the fact that there are a number of e-recycling schemes now available to them.
William Sankey, of The Ethical Company Organisation, told Computer Weekly that businesses should not underestimate the
impact that ethical behaviour can have on the motivation and productivity of their workers.
"A business that gives serious consideration to the environment and the health of workers throughout its supply chain is likely to be rewarded with a happier and more dedicated workforce," he
said.
Meanwhile, a senior environmental consultant has warned that people are trashing laptops after just a couple of years because technology is no longer made to be upgradable and prices are becoming
much cheaper.
Caroline Laitner, of green organisation Waste Watch urged businesses and consumers to invest in models that can be updated and
upgraded, rather than having to be completely replaced.
