Email 'preferred' online tool

The easiest form of online communication will continue to be email, it has been claimed this week.

Programmes manager at the Internet Advertising Bureau Jack Wallington suggested that electronic mail is "universal" and simple to use, comments that may be of interest to those beginning IT businesses in Wales.

And it is the best form of social networking, he added, because replies can be composed despite the equipment that is being used.

While solutions such as Facebook and Windows Instant Messenger, he said, are to a certain extent "exciting", they are simply not as flexible as emailing.

"As this technology becomes more affordable there's potential for email to replace texting altogether, further growing the medium," he suggested in relation to smart phone emails.

Such avenues are free of charge and are becoming simpler all of the time, Mr Wallington remarked.

A recent study by Habeas found that 67 per cent of people believe emailing is better than other online communications.
