Business continuity guidelines published

A new guide to help organisation's create business continuity (BC) plans has been launched by IT Governance.

The book is called 'A Manager's Guide to BS25999' and advises companies on the steps required for them to meet the BS25999 standard for BC management.

Alan Calder, chief executive of IT Governance, commented: "Sophisticated business continuity planning is a must for any organisation keen to minimise disruption and maximise recovery.

"A Manager's Guide to BS25999 makes business continuity and the implementation of BS25999 accessible and comprehensible to specialist and layman alike, giving them a clear grasp of practical steps that must be taken," he added.

Among the suggestions outlined in the guide, it is argued that risks to business continuity can be significantly reduced by embedding business continuity management, awareness and planning at the heart of an organisation's corporate culture.

The guide was written by Tony Drewitt, a member of the Business Continuity Institute, which provides advice and guidance to enterprises implementing BC strategies.

In September 2008, the second annual IT Directors Disaster Recovery & Availability Summit is set to take place in London. Themes will be looked at such as ways in which modern businesses define disaster recovery strategies and how companies can apply best practices in their own organisations.
