Firms 'should consider' benefits of social networking

Social networks can be "beneficial" to small businesses, including those based in England and Wales, and firms should not be afraid to utilise them.

That is according to the Social Media Portal (SMP), which has asserted that social networking sites can be very helpful for online networking.

The SMP also suggested that these sites can help to keep firms in the loop with regards to changes to their sector or industry.

Tim Gibbon, co-founder and editor of SMP, noted that social networks already have a large part to play in the day to day running of several companies and added that their role looks set to become more important over time.

He commented: "Social networks' role is huge, and, within certain sectors, is an integral part of business and will become increasingly so.

"Networking can be beneficial - whether for a SME or large organisation - because successful businesses are built on relationships."

Firms should regularly update their page on a social network and keep their news as fresh as possible if they want to get the full benefit of having one, Elementals has suggested.
