Consumers 'now have more power'
The internet is helping to place more power in the hands of consumers and away from large corporations, it has been suggested.
According to the managing director of VoIP provider Vonage UK Vincent Potier, people have been searching for more "citizen power" and this has
been aided by internet services.
While in the past, mass media has attempted to take advantage of people through advertising, Mr Potier noted, now things are becoming more equal.
He suggested that applications such as networking mean that a greater degree of "autonomy" is now available to consumers, something that may interest those with IT firms in Wales.
"I believe that the internet, because it is a network and a medium at the same time, has given back that level of autonomy and that level of decision-making power to the consumers," he
commented.
Verdict Research has recently stated that £14.7 billion was splashed out by consumers in the UK online in 2007. This was an increase of
35 per cent from the previous year.
