Expert says mobile internet becoming crucial to business
Having the ability to access the internet on-the-go from a mobile phone is quickly becoming a fundamental necessity for businesses, a technology expert has claimed.
In news that may interest Welsh SMEs, Andrew Lim, mobile phones editor at technology website CNET, said accessing the internet from mobile phones will become increasingly important as businesses and consumers come to rely more heavily on the internet.
"It's convenient and it's easier than having to switch your PC on sometimes," he explained. "Also it's nice to be able to access content when you're at the pub or a football match and it's an easy and quick way of doing it."
"Although it's not a necessity right now - and I'm sure people can survive without it - I think increasingly it will become one as we tie our lives more and more with the internet."
A study by research company Harris Interactive, conducted in March 2008, revealed that some 25 per cent of people access the internet from their mobile phones and have used the device to make an online transaction.
