The Pension Service: Stakeholder Pensions
Employers with 5 or more employees should consult the guide Stakeholder pensions - a guide for employers which is available online as a pdf file. The scheme is optional for companies with fewer than 5 employees. In April 2001, the Government introduced a new form of pension provision. Any business which employs five or more people will have to set up a 'Stakeholder' pension scheme. Only businesses with qualifying Group Personal Pension Schemes or Occupational Pension Schemes were exempt from having to meet the deadline date of October 2001.

This work is carried out mostly by a network of volunteer pension professionals spread throughout the UK. All of the volunteers are people who work or have worked in the pensions industry and do their OPAS work in their own free time.
